Best Things to do in Omaha Nebraska!

Omaha, Nebraska, may not be the first city that comes to mind when planning a vacation, but it’s definitely worth a visit. From outdoor activities to cultural experiences, there’s something for everyone to enjoy in this Midwestern city. In my experience with Omaha, Nebraska, it is such a clean big city. They do a great job at keeping up the streets and parks. There are so many outdoor art exhibits to enjoy. Here are some of the best things to do in Omaha:

1. The Henry Dourly Zoo

Visit the Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium: This world-class zoo is home to over 17,000 animals from 900 species, including the world’s largest indoor desert, the world’s largest indoor rainforest, and the world’s largest indoor swamp. You can also see the zoo’s famous “Kingdoms of the Night” exhibit, which features nocturnal animals worldwide. Visiting the zoo is a fantastic experience, but imagine spending the night there! You can do that at the Henry Dourly Zoo in Omaha, Nebraska.

Check out a map of the Omaha Zoo here. This zoo has sea lions, snow leopards, tigers, bears, and more.

2. The old Market

Explore the Old Market: This historic neighborhood is the perfect place to stroll and shop. You’ll find a variety of unique boutiques, galleries, and restaurants, as well as street performers and live music. Check out the restored 19th-century buildings, which have been converted into shops and lofts. This area in Omaha is beautiful to look at. We stayed at the Farnam Marriott hotel when we visited Omaha, and it had the most amazing views of the city.

There are many incredible restaurants to eat at while in the old market. You could explore this small section of Omaha all day. If you are staying the night, look into a hotel nearby to be close to all the action. If you visit Omaha Old Market, I know you will have a great first impression of Nebraska.

3. Joslyn Art Museum

Visit the Joslyn Art Museum: This museum is home to over 12,000 works of art, including American and European paintings, sculptures, and decorative arts. The museum also features a beautiful garden and a planetarium. This museum has been under renovation for a while and will re-open in 2024 with a new look and more art. If you have already been here before, it may be time for a new visit.

4. The Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge

Take a stroll on the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge: This 3,000-foot-long bridge spans the Missouri River, connecting Omaha to Council Bluffs, Iowa. It’s a great place to take a walk or bike ride and enjoy the beautiful views of the river and the city skyline. You can tell your family that you “walked to Iowa from Nebraska.” The bridge is so pretty at sunset and at nighttime when the lights turn on. The Missouri River is iconic and historic in the USA. The size of this river and bridge will put you in awe. If you do not have time for a walk, remember to drive over it while in Omaha. This walk will take about 15-20 minutes as it is less than a mile. I recommend starting at the heartland bicycle and ending at the Rivers Edge Pavilion.
